"PYPM Friday Night Live - Poetry Showcase" Review

Yesterday evening the Philly Youth Poetry Movement(PYPM) held their latest poetry showcase at The Kimmel Center. The showcase featured young writers performing self-composed pieces about conflict in their communities, strained relationships, low self-esteem and the transition through those obstacles; these poets have been renewed. Although they represented different walks of life, together their presence was harmonious. The emotion conveyed with each stanza resonated throughout the plaza creating a unique vibe for those in attendance.
PYPM founder, Gregory Corbin, helps provide inner city youth (ages 13 to 19) with an opportunity as well as a positive environment for their voices to be heard. In doing so, Corbin and the PYPM staff have established a solid foundation for their members to flourish as rising artists. A noticeable aspect of the event was the amount young people in attendance. Some arrived still carrying their school books, while others came the event with family and friends. They all could have been elsewhere, but they were there, listening and supporting Gregory Corbin's vision to uplift inner city youth through the power of poetry.
