2010 VMA Review

Last night MTV aired their 27th Annual Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, and as usual there were plenty of buzz worthy moments for discussion. Whether it was host, Chelsea Handler’s shameless humor, Usher’s stellar dance routine or Lady Gaga taking home eight Moonmen, I surely was entertained throughout the evening.
It was a year of comebacks at the 2010 VMA’s. Millions tuned in as Eminem took the stage with his hit single ‘I’m Not Afraid’ which transitioned into ‘Love The Way You Lie,’ when Rihanna surprised many with an unexpected appearance. Em was granted two VMA’s after leaving the show to continue his “Home and Home” tour with Jay-z. Usher and Linkin Park also returned to the VMA's captivating those in attendance while presenting their solidity in the music industry.
Lady Gaga stole the show with thirteen VMA nominations and eight wins. Her taste in extraordinary costumes didn’t disappoint either. With every award won she hoisted a new, vibrant and slightly stubborn ensemble and slowly made her way toward the stage. Legendary vocalist Cher made a special appearance in her unforgettable 'If I Could Turn Back Time' outfit as she presented Lady Gaga with her final trophy. While making her tearful acceptance speech, she released the title and sang a excerpt from her upcoming album, “Born This Way.”
An interesting aspect of the evening were the performances of Taylor Swift and Kanye West. Everyone can recall last year when Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift as she accepted the “Best Female Video” award. Old news right? This year, following a flashback video of the incident, Taylor performed 'Innocent',which included the lyrics, "You're 32 and still growing up now.” A song undoubtedly aimed at Mr. West who was indeed 32 when the incident occurred. To close this years show, Kanye took the stage and performed ‘Runaway’ containing the lyrics, “Let’s have a toast for the douche bags…let’s have a toast for the assholes,” in response. Who won this years battle? Is it even worth the excessive media attention at this point? Either way, it was certainly a memorable ending the notoriously bizarre, yet entertaining Video Music Awards.

Here's audio of Kanye's performance.
